When to visit
The dry seasons — June to October and late December to February — are the sweet spot. April and May bring the long rains: quiet, green, half-price hotels, and the island almost to yourself.

What to pack
Light linen, a modest cover-up for Stone Town, reef-safe sunscreen, and a scarf for the mosques. Zanzibar is Muslim — knees and shoulders covered off the beach earns real warmth from locals.

Getting around
The island is small but the roads take their time. All Zanchoyo tours include private, air-conditioned transfers from your hotel. For independent days: dala-dalas are cheap but slow; Bolt runs in Stone Town.

Money & tipping
USD and TZS both work; USD notes should be post-2013 and pristine. Tipping isn't obligatory but 10% for a great guide or a meal is warmly received.

Language
Swahili is the mother tongue. English is widely spoken. Learn 'jambo' (hello), 'asante' (thank you), and 'pole pole' (slowly) — you'll get smiles for miles.

Health & safety
Zanzibar is generally very safe. Anti-malarials are recommended — check with your doctor. Tap water is not drinkable; bottled water is everywhere.
